I believe that children's portraiture should capture the individuality of the child; a certain smile, gesture, the relationship with a special toy. It should should capture a moment and be a true representation of what makes that child unique.
Having three children of my own, I realise that every child has their off days and won't necessarily perform to order! That's why I begin each shoot by building a rapport with the child before even getting out my camera - I want the shoot to be a fun, enjoyable experience for everyone. I spend as long as necessary to get the right shots and am happy to come back another day if things aren't working.
